Piacere di conoscerti

Hi.
My name is Guyanne.

Sounds like Diane,
but with a G.

It's not nearly as exotic, complicated or even unique as most people make it out to be, but the etymology is pretty cool. In fact, it's one of my all-time favorite love stories. But more on that later...

I hate writing introductions, but if I had to, it would probably go something like this:

I'm a former urban singleton from Chicago with a pathological obsession for food and travel. And thanks to an unexpected twist of fate set in motion by a last-minute girls' weekend in Rome, a mad quest for the perfect tartufo led us to the Piazza Navona where I met a tall, blue-eyed, non-smoking and gainfully-employed Italian who didn't still live with his mother. In other words, the modern-day equivalent of a unicorn.

Two years later, we would be reunited in Milan. Last year we were married in Italy. This year we are hoping planning plotting to move there. Currently we are living in Holland - at least until further notice. I haven't had a chance to decide whether I'm excited or terrified. Most days it's a little of both...so I write. And cook. A lot.

If this blog were my front door I would usher you in, offer you a glass of prosecco, whip up some kind of aperitivi and insist that you stay for dinner. Or if, perchance, you happened along on an early morning stroll, I'd make us some cappuccinos. Or mimosas. Probably both.

Feel free to come back and visit as often as you like. The door is always open, the fridge is always full and the wine is always flowing. Benvenuto!

  1. I LOVED this introduction and am so honored to be the first to comment. I'm shocked actually as I got goose bumps reading it. Wow! It sounds like a dream come true! Especially the fact the the Italian has blue eyes and doesn't live with his mamma. AND actually moved out of his country.

Good for you girl. I'm glad I found your blog. I ALMOST made my first risotto. You've truly inspired me.

Well done. I don't like writing introductions either. Mines a mess. I threw in a bunch of random quotes in the middle. Oh well. You can always edit.

@ Julie: I actually enjoyed your intro - sounds like we would get along famously. Stop by any time - and definitely, DEFINITELY make that risotto!

@Melissa: Grazie Mille! I'll always have a prosecco on ice for you =)

I love comments almost as much as prosecco. Almost...
